READING TEXT 1: Read the text and answer questions 1-10 below: Britain’s famous ‘Fish and Chips’ Fish and chips are one of Britain’s favourite dinners. The fish is fried in a batter and chips is another name for fried potatoes. Real British chips are big and chunky, not small and thin. They are not the ‘French fries’ that you see in American burger restaurants. People often think fish and chips are originally from Britain. However, fried potatoes originate from 17 th century France and Belgium. That’s where the name ‘French fries’ come from. It’s easy to find places where you can try fish and chips. The next time you’re in Britain why not visit a ‘chippy’? ‘Chippy’ is a short name for a ‘fish and chip shop’. There are about 11,000 of them in Britain, and every town has at least one!
