The fish is fried in a batter and chips is another name for fried potatoes. Real British chips are big and chunky, not small and thin. They are not the ‘French fries’ that you see in American burger restaurants. People often think fish and chips are originally from Britain. However, fried potatoes originate from 17 th century France and Belgium. That’s where the name ‘French fries’ come from. It’s easy to find places where you can try fish and chips.
